Life & Career Milestones
I've taken a lot of twists and turns
1.
Graduating from high school, I was more interested in what was going on with other people who were not yet in college, a.k.a. a boyfriend, that I flunked out. I was not dedicated enough or mature.
2.
I was married young and began having children. I will never regret my children, but I wanted better for them.
3.
I held many positions in various businesses. Without a college degree, I was limited.
4.
I stayed home with my children while they were young and I have many wonderful memories of this, no regrets.
5.
I graduated in August 2000 with my bachelor's degree, but staying home and being a single parent hurt me career-wise.
6.
I had a position with Texas Tech that was a step towards getting my life together and providing for my children, then I had the car accident.
7.
In June 2020, I returned to Texas Tech to pursue my master's degree, and realized I had found my niche. I wanted it all, including my doctorate.
8.
I have began teaching at Lubbock High School to gain experience in the classroom. I want to teach in college eventually.

Messages from Society in general:
You're not smart enough to go to college. You're too old to return to college and graduate. You need to major in something that suits your gender.
How I responded:
You can do anything that you set your mind to do. It does not matter what it looks like to those around you. If it is what you want deep down inside, it is worth it and you can do it. Never let age hold you back from your dreams.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I had a car accident in October 2014 that left me with injuries leading me to be declared disabled in 2017. In 2020 I decided to return to school and work on my master's degree. I now want to work on my doctorate after I gain experience in education.
