My path in life took a while to figure out

1.
Graduating High School with an undecided major, working full time as a shoe store manager.
2.
Attending community college and declaring physical therapy assistant as my degree plan.
3.
Moving away from home to attend University, working part time at a financial institution and changing my degree to finances.
4.
Discovering that I wanted to help younger populations and deciding to become a teacher, changing my degree to education.
5.
Working full time as a teacher, varsity athletic coach, and building a family.
6.
Discovering my passion for helping students explore opportunities for their future and deciding to go back to school to become a career counselor.
7.
Graduating with my master's degree in school counseling and finding the perfect job for me.

THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
Working in education is a thankless job, the pay will be horrible, and the government and policy makers do not support or fund schools properly in order to be successful.
How I responded:
I reminded myself that our future was in our schools, it was our students and the students who were still to come. In order to change the world and have a better future where we could get proper funding and pay, we would have to start by influencing, encouraging, and transforming our future and our students.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

Going to college, my family was supportive, but clueless. Learning about the college admission process, the cost, and financial aid was difficult for us. We had no one to guide us and I did not have anyone else with experiences to learn from.
I was behind academically for a long time and needed special accommodations. I thought I was too behind to go to college, I thought I would not be successful if I went. However, I learned how to advocate for myself in school so I could get support.
I have autonomic dysfunction. It affects every part of my body and the daily function of myself physically and cognitively. I have very sick days and healthy days. I remind myself of the strength I have when sick and focus on the the healthy days.
