Life & Career Milestones

I've taken a lot of twists and turns

  • 1.

Completed HS with honors and had a full year of college paid for my first year to study Pre-med in Christopher Newport University.

  • 2.

After leaving the nursing program, I moved to Texas and thought I would figure out what I wanted to do there.

  • 3.

Towards the end of the year at CNU I realized medicine wasn't my passion so I transferred to George Mason to study Nursing.

  • 4.

I continued to work as a teller for Capital One. I had already been working with Capital One 2 years. In Texas, I was promoted 3 times and was succeeding in the branches as a Banker.

  • 5.

I worked hard to get into GMU's Nursing Program, which I did.

  • 6.

After 3 years of being a Banker, I realized I wanted to do more and progress in my career so I landed the job as an Administrative Assistant for Capital One Headquarters.

  • 7.

While in the Nursing Program I realized I wasn't cut out to be a nurse and I couldn't picture myself being a nurse for the rest of my life.

  • 8.

I am able to do all the things I always wanted to do as an Admin. I help others, I bring joy to others, I organize events, I have a flexible schedule and I organize volunteer events.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Family:

My discouragement came from watching my family struggle and I not being able to help because I wasn't working financially because I was a full time student.

  • How I responded:

I would say, focus on your own goals and don't worry about what's surrounding you. At the end of the day your family will make it through the struggle, but you won't be able to take back the time you missed working on getting your degree.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • As the child of immigrant parents, being successful wasn't an option for me. My mother hoped for her daughters to be someone in America, to have a degree and find a dream job. This expectation helped to push me to also do more and better.
