My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
Working through college at an oil change location. I changed oil and performed other car repairs.
2.
I failed (or early withdrew to avoid an F) Principles of Accounting II, three times. This made me question my degree choice and if I could obtain it.
3.
Graduated with my BA in marketing.
4.
Interviewed with several sales - direct and indirect - trying to find a job post college.
5.
Hired at Sedgwick CMS (third-party claims administrator) issuing Medicare payments.
6.
Promoted to a Claims Adjuster at Sedgwick CMS handling Property Damage/Bodily Injury/Premise Liability.
7.
Joined Travelers' new Adverse Subrogation National Unit.
8.
Joined the new Arbitration focused team in Adverse Subrogation.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Teachers:
You need to prepare to make less than $30,000/year after you graduate. Many of you will still be waitressing after college.
How I responded:
While waitressing is no easy job, it was not the career path I wanted. I began looking into different industries to assess the largest job market. Insurance has many facets so there were several entry level jobs near me.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Taking out student loans to get a college degree is not ideal. The outstanding balance of over $30,000 sitting on the shoulders of a recent college grad was a heavy burden. I needed a degree that would help me pay these loans off quickly.
