Messages from Society in general:
I didn't start my career in creative services. I had to make a career change. At times I wondered if I would "catch up" and make the appropriate in-roads to be successful and advance.
How I responded:
Surround yourself with mentors – people who've done or are doing what you want to do. This includes paid or unpaid internships and networking opportunities. Learn the business and the industry, not just the skill set needed to do a particular job, if you want to advance. STAND OUT! It's a crowded talent pool. You have to stand out from your peers. Write cover letters. Don't just send resumes. Write thank you notes after interviews. Show up early. Develop a unique point of view on issues/trends.
