Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Friends:

You can't do anything with a history degree except teach history, and history teaching positions are hard to come by and don't pay well.

  • How I responded:

There are a couple of directions you can go with your studies. There are valid fields where more specialized education is necessary, and equally valid fields that teach you cognitive skills that can serve you well in a variety of areas. My own studies taught me to use analytical skills in ways that help me determine context for any type of decision making, and that has made all the difference.
