Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Society in general:

You can be whatever you want!

  • How I responded:

You, your skills, and time are finite and limited. If you love something, by all means keep at it. But the illusion that are culture persists in, that we can do anything you want, is dangerous. It induces a kind of vertigo that paralyzes any action. Most people thrive under certain sets of limitations. These make us be selective and purposeful with our time. Look to the past. What did people do before me to succeed? Read the Bible, Marcus Aurelius and Plutarch. Surrender to win.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • Living with an addiction is like running a marathon with a bear trap on your leg. Nip that in the bud as soon as possible. It made all the difference in my life. And you can't go it alone. Pray. Get help. Talk to a Catholic priest.
