Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

Grew up in a small, primarily Catholic, town in Louisiana, raised by her impoverished single mother.

  • 2.

She was often mistreated and shunned from others because of the way she grew up.

  • 3.

25 years ago, she found herself homeless, living out of a car; took a vow that she would never be poor again.

  • 4.

Determined to make a life for herself, she went to law school in Georgia and studied to become a prosecutor.

  • 5.

Then she wanted to pay it forward and help others overcome oppression in their lives, so she decided to become a judge.

  • 6.

As a judge, she finally felt a sense of pride-something she didn't often feel as a child.

  • 7.

After five years on the bench, she realized that she needed to reach out to others who were oppressed through ministry.

  • 8.

Decided to become a preacher and an ordained minister; also started a nonprofit that helps families and empowers women.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • I was homeless in a car, 25 years ago. I grew up poor as a child, and made the same mistakes. Giving my power to a man who was supposed to pay the bills and he didn't. And I was in a car and I vowed that I would never be broke again. So I spent my whole life going to school and law school. In the back of my mind I wanted to help the oppressed, but at the same time I would not be oppressed.
