My Day to Day

As the executive director of Parent Teacher Home Visits, I lead our organization, set strategic visions, and manage a dedicated team. My role involves ensuring the quality of our trainings, supporting schools and districts using our model, and maximizing the benefit for students, families, and teachers. I also focus on measuring our impact, raising funds, and partnering with others to promote meaningful family engagement in education.

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

    Aiming to outearn my parents, I pursued a business degree in college, followed by an MBA, envisioning a corporate future.

  • 2.

    Internships revealed that the corporate world wasn't a great fit for me, so I fell back on a lingering interest in public education.

  • 3.

    I tried substitute teaching for a year and realized the classroom setting wasn't my calling either.

  • 4.

    I decided to pursue a PhD in social and cultural studies in education, seeking to apply theory to community.

  • 5.

    I fell into community organizing, leading to 18 years in the field, including working in Sacramento schools.

  • 6.

    After reconnecting with Parent Teacher Home Visits, I transitioned from consulting for the organization to serving as the executive director.

  • 7.

    Now leading the organization, I strive to enhance family engagement in schools nationwide.
